Memory 08
Watching over feverish Yeine. (ref: HTK 144) trivial negative
Description:
This is a short one, Yeine again.
This is a very, very external memory of Nahadoth. I realize a lot of them tend to be, but it really is a much better external sketch than an internal one.
So things we know Naha knows from this memory: Yeine was hit very hard by a mental and emotional shock related to the Enefadeh. In particular, Kurue was there for it and is probably getting at least part of the blame. Itempas very likely getting much more of it. I'm going to say that Naha does not know the exact nature of the shock, but for mortals dealing with gods... it can happen.
He is worried for her. He will be hurt and "disappointed" if she doesn't recover. He's angry. I think it's very likely that along with blaming Kurue and Tempa, he's angry at himself for allowing Yeine to be involved in this.
Notes:
-While this is not a super big or interesting memory, I do like it. The timing is pretty amazing coming on the heals of a trauma game like this. Luck is definitely behind Naha being protective/possessive of her team.
-While it's not a memory thing per se, I'm kind of glad to post a memory that references Naha's nature being change, and in particular the fact that Naha has to change. While Naha wasn't there for it, this is relevant to what I've been doing with Naha re: gender/sex. The situation which preceded this (which Naha will never get to remember because he wasn't there) included among other things a depiction of Nahadoth that surprised Yeine in part because while definitely identifiable, it seemed to be ambiguously female. The fact that Naha had been predominately female during the era leading up to the war was among the things that's no longer known among mortals. So this memory ties in, if only tangentially, to that as well.
-It also illustrates what I've been saying about Naha changing to suit other people. It's pretty clear in the context of the novel that he doesn't take a Darre appearance for himself; he takes it for Yeine. Whether not he even does it for Yeine for himself or whether it's mostly involuntary depends a lot on Naha's mental and physical health.
-Reasonably safe on the sharing scale. God senses are god senses, but drastically limited because of imprisonment, and mostly the experience would just be watching a sick girl on and off for a couple of days.

Description:
This is a short one, Yeine again.
When the body suffers an assault, it often reacts with a fever. Assaults to the mind can have the same effect. Thus I lay shivering and insensible for the better part of three days.
A few moments from this time appear in my memory as still-life portraits, some in color and some in shades of gray.
[...]
One of the images in my head is different from the others. This one is dark again, but the walls, too, have gone dark, and there is a feeling to the image, a sense of ominous weight and pressure and low, gathering rage. Zhakkarn stands away from the window this time, near a wall.
Her head is bowed in respect. In the foreground stands Nahadoth, gazing down at me in silence. Once again his face has transformed, and I understand now that this is because Itempas can only control him so much. He must change; he is Change. He could allow me to see his fury, for it weighs the very air, making my skin itch. Instead he is expressionless. His skin has turned warm brown and his eyes are layered shades of black, and his lips make me crave soft, ripe fruit. The perfect face for seducing lonely Darre girls—though it would work better if his eyes held any warmth.
He says nothing that I recall. When my fever breaks at last and I awaken, he is gone and the weight of rage has lifted—though it never goes away entirely. That, too, Bright Itempas cannot control.
